Parallel unstructured mesh generation by an advancing front method

چکیده
Mesh generation is a critical step in high fidelity computational simulations. High quality and high density meshes are required to accurately capture the complex physical phenomena. A parallel framework has been developed to generate large-scale meshes in a short period of time. A coarse volume mesh is generated first to provide the basis of block interfaces and partitioned into a number of sub-domains using METIS partitioning algorithms. A volume mesh is generated on each sub-domain in parallel using an advancing front method. Dynamic load balancing is achieved by evenly distributing work among the processors. All the subdomains are combined to create a single volume mesh. The combined volume mesh can be smoothed to remove the artifacts in the interfaces between sub-domains. A void region is defined inside each sub-domain to reduce the data points during the smoothing operation. The scalability of the parallel mesh generation is evaluated to quantify the improvement.

A Paradigm for Parallel Unstructured Grid Generation
In this paper, a sequential 2D unstructured grid generator based on iterative point insertion and local reconnection is coupled with a Delauney tessellation domain decomposition scheme to create a scalable parallel unstructured grid generator. The Message Passing Interface (MPI) is used for distributed communication in the parallel grid generator. This work attempts to provide a generic framewo...

This paper presents a procedure for eecient generation of three-dimensional unstructured meshes of tetrahedral elements. Initially, a constrained Delaunay mesh is generated wherein internal points are created using advancing-front point placement and are inserted using a Delaunay method. The overall procedure is applied repetitively until the mesh satisses a desired element size distribution fu...

متن کاملA Closed Advancing-Layer Method with Changing Topology Mesh Movement for Viscous Mesh Generation
A new closed advancing-layer method for generating high-aspectratio elements in the boundary-layer (BL) region is presented. This approach utilizes a recent changing topology moving mesh strategy for deforming the volume mesh as the BL is inflated. It handles very efficiently BL front collision and produces a natural smooth anisotropic blending between colliding layers. Moreover, it provides a ...
